DEXA SCAN

DEXA (Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry) is a means of measuring an individuals total body composition, by this we mean that it gives the exact description of your bodily fat, lean tissue, bone weight - in percentage as well in kilograms . It also gives a region wise distribution of these in different areas of the body making it clear as to what could be the further treatment procedure.
Doing a DEXA Scan is fast and non invasive.

It gives a detailed report of your body weight dividing it in the following..
1 Fat
2 Lean- Includes proteins(muscle) & water content.
3 Bone Mineral Count

It is essential that whenever you loose weight it should be the excessive useless fat and not the essential proteins, water or bone tissue. In our body the muscles and other tissues are necessary for the normal body processes and functions, but fat when excessive is rahter harmful and creates various associated complications like osteo-arthritis, increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes etc

A DEXA Scan specifies the android & gynoid fat distribution within our body - in females it is normal to have more of gynoid fat than males

A Total Body Composition Report before & After the treatment makes it very clear as to what have you lost during the treatment.

It is considered a gold standard for analyzing Bone Mineral Density (BMD) giving a complete picture of possibility of osteopenia/osteoporosis or the extent to which it has advanced. It is capable of scanning individual bones such as hip , spine, forearm bones etc. so that any improvement in any of the regions can be precisely monitored and recorded.

DEXA is, by far, the most widely used technique for bone measurements and body composition since it is the most precise and accurate method available till date which is reliable and easy to use.

Do a DEXA Scan & get an inside view of your Body

The AP Spine is a weight-bearing area prone to osteoporotic fractures. This makes it an ideal site for measuring a patient's bone mineral density. The spine's high concentration of metabolically active trabecular (soft, spongy) bone also makes it the most sensitive site for monitoring response to therapy.

Body composition measurement with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) can look beyond weight and the traditional body mass index (BMI) to determine body fat distribution – an important risk factor in a variety of serious diseases.
Information from DXA scan examinations can prove valuable in conditions, such as:
Obesity
Anorexia nervosa
Cystic fibrosis
Wasting syndrome (caused by HIV/Aids)
Chronic renal failure

Body composition scans
with DXA provide precise and accurate data on bone and tissue composition, including bone mineral density (BMD), lean tissue mass, and fat tissue mass. They provide both total body data and regional results (trunk, arms, legs, pelvis and android/gynoid regions).

Normal values for body fat in a non athlete male - 15 to 18
Normal values for body fat in a non athlete female - 20 to 25%

Normal body fat values vary for athletes and non-athletes.

Its normal to have body fat values of 5 to 12 % for males athletes and 10 to 20 % for females.
